My name is Kathy Cox-Ivy. (My students call me “Ms. Cox”.) I was born and raised right here in Lauderdale County. I am married and have two beautiful daughters and four wonderful grandchildren. From Dyersburg State Community College I received an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Accounting and Business Administration in 2000 and an Associates of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 2006. I graduated from University of Tennessee Martin in the summer of 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. I am certified to teach all academic subjects for grades K - 8. Although I have worked in education since February 2000, I officially began my teaching career in 2008.
  • MY PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION I believe that education is the key to understanding. I believe that every child, regardless of race, color, ethnicity, or national background deserves a good education. Each child is a work in progress, and it is up to the teacher to help mold and shape that child into a responsible adult. I believe that it is important to reach every child, using whatever style of teaching necessary. Each child is different and each class is different, I can’t change that. Therefore, I must adjust my teaching and interaction with the students to best suit that particular class or individual. Keeping in touch with the families of my students is essential. Just as each student is different, so is each family situation. I will strive to instill in the students and their families a sense of trust and acceptance. A heart of compassion and understanding is essential in the teaching profession. Each student is reachable. With structured curriculum, innovative teaching and modern technology, I will motivate students to learn. Whenever possible, lessons will be geared around real life situations. I will enlighten my students with the knowledge of what benefits will be gained from the lessons. My voice will not only be used for instruction, but for encouragement and praise as well. Encouragement promotes confidence and praise will light up a child’s face. I will enter the classroom with an assurance that each day will be a good day. I will teach my students to be optimistic by using myself as a role model. I will challenge my students by setting high standards with hopes that this will encourage them to set high standard for themselves. This will result in productive citizens that will not be afraid to reach for the sky.
